Lisia Mix-Bieber, Head of Public Affairs at the German Broadband Association (BREKO) comments as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">\u201cBREKO welcomes the European Commission\u2019s continued commitment to simplifying excessive regulation in order to facilitate economic growth and strengthen the competitiveness of European businesses. The digital omnibus package presented a year ago included a number of helpful measures that should now be swiftly implemented. The \u2018digital transformation package\u2019 announced for mid-2027 can be another important step to ease the bureaucratic burden on European businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">For Europe\u2019s telecoms sector, the key EU project of 2027 is finalising the Digital Networks Act, which will be crucial to accelerate the switch from legacy copper to future-proof fibre networks. While the Commission\u2019s proposal includes many important improvements, it also contains several critical points \u2013 such as the idea of infinite mobile spectrum rights without appropriate competition safeguards \u2013 that must be addressed in order to achieve the stated objectives of creating planning security, triggering additional investment, and ensuring fair competition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Moreover, accelerating the deployment of data centres in the European regions where computing capacity is most needed through the Cloud and AI Development Act is another important initiative on the Commission\u2019s 2027 legislative agenda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">BREKO also welcomes the Commission&#8217;s commitment to finalising the Cybersecurity Act 2 as a way to strengthen European digital networks in a context of growing geopolitical tensions and related security concerns. However, the cost of replacing banned network components cannot be borne by network operators alone.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Deutsche Telekom continues to abuse its dominant market position by strategically overbuilding the fiber optic networks of its competitors, thereby massively hindering them.
