BREKO press release: Fiber optic expansion in the fast lane – BREKO strengthens Board of Management

Fiber optic expansion in the fast lane: BREKO strengthens its Board of Directors
The German Broadband Association (BREKO) is responding to the continued strong growth in membership. At today’s General Meeting, which was held virtually for the first time, the members of Germany’s leading fiber optic association elected a new Board of Directors and added two new members. Norbert Westfal was confirmed in office as BREKO President.
The recently published figures of the BREKO market analysis20 reflect the fact that fibre optic expansion is in the fast lane and plays an important role in the digitalization of Germany. This strong trend is also confirmed by BREKO’s growing membership figures. In its 21st year, the association currently represents 372 companies, including 211 telecommunications network operators.
The association is responding to this positive development by expanding its Board of Directors with two additional members. Dr. Stephan Zimmermann, Managing Director of Deutsche Glasfaser Holding GmbH, and Wolfram Rinner, Managing Director of GasLINE mbH & Co KG, are new to the Board. The previous members of the Board of Management and the Presidium around BREKO President Norbert Westfal (Spokesman of the Management Board of EWE TEL GmbH), Vice Presidents Karsten Kluge (Thüringer Netkom GmbH) and Alfred Rauscher (R-KOM mbH & Co. KG) and Treasurer Bernhard Palm (Netcom BW GmbH) were confirmed in office.
BREKO President Norbert Westfal, who is entering his fourth term as President, is looking forward to working with the new members of the Board of Management. He welcomes the reinforcement, particularly in light of the further significant increase in the political importance of fiber optic expansion: “With the addition to the Board of Directors, we can represent the interests of our members even more comprehensively and effectively. Especially in the discussion about the many important topics of the upcoming TKG amendment and the realignment of broadband funding. We are joining forces to create the right framework conditions for fiber optic expansion. Simplifying approval procedures and concentrating funding on areas with particularly poor coverage are just two of the points that are of the highest priority for accelerated expansion.”
BREKO Managing Director Dr. Stephan Albers is also positive about the future: “BREKO is clearly focusing on the nationwide expansion of fiber optics. Our members have elected a strong Board of Management team. They will do everything in their power to set the course so that citizens and companies in Germany can be supplied with fiber optic connections right into their buildings as quickly as possible.”
