The Federal Association for Broadband Communication (BREKO) represents the majority of German fixed-line competitors.
As the leading fibre-optic association with 540 member companies, the Federal Association for Broadband Communication (BREKO) successfully promotes competition in the German telecommunications market. Its members are firmly committed to future-proof fibre-optic technology and are currently responsible for more than half of the roll-out of fibre-optic connections into buildings and homes. The more than 260 telecommunications network operators organised within the association supply both urban centres and rural areas with future-proof fibre-optic connections.
In its latest market analysis for 2025, BREKO shows that fibre-optic roll-out in Germany is continuing to progress. As of mid-2025, the fibre-optic roll-out rate stands at 52.8 per cent, with 27.3 per cent* of households connected. However, as the pace of fibre-optic roll-out is slowing across the country, BREKO is calling on the federal government to finally take effective measures.
