OXG starts fiber optic expansion for more than 45,000 households in Tempelhof Schöneberg
- Future-proof: OXG’s fiber optic expansion in Berlin has begun. OXG has started expanding the infrastructure in Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
- Together: OXG Managing Director Dr. Sören Trebst and Stefan Rüter welcomed District Mayor Jörn Oltmann to the construction site to mark the start of construction.
- Flexible: OXG is building an open fiber optic network. Residents benefit from a high degree of provider freedom and a free connection to the future.
Fiber optic expansion in Osnabrück’s commercial areas is progressing
In November, the expansion in the port of Osnabrück to provide fiber optic access to the commercial area addresses there will begin. This means that all seven construction lots are currently in the implementation phase. “The expansion of fibre optics is an important factor for Osnabrück as a business location, especially in light of the increasing digitalization of production and sales. It is therefore of great importance to invest in digital, future-proof infrastructure that enables companies to remain innovative and competitive,” explains Lord Mayor Katharina Pötter.
Ground-breaking ceremony: Westconnect starts fiber optic expansion in Düsseldorf
Ground-breaking ceremony in Düsseldorf: Westconnect is bringing fiber optic networks to the city of Düsseldorf. Since the beginning of October, the company has been rolling out fiber optic lines that are laid right into buildings in Düsseldorf Hubbelrath and Ludenberg. Westconnect is thus giving more households and businesses access to fast, stable and sustainable Internet. The expansion means that private households and businesses are now future-proof: The new fiber optic network offers transmission rates of up to 1,000 megabits per second. The fiber optic expansion in Hubbelrath and the north of Ludenberg is expected to last until 2026.

Lights on: WEMACOM puts important network nodes into operation
Another important step in the expansion of the fiber optic network has been completed: WEMACOM Breitband GmbH officially put the central network node (Core-PoP) in Parkentin, Rostock district, into operation on 13.11.2024. At the same time, a key network node in the district of Prignitz was also connected to the network. In a ceremonial inauguration, the network was symbolically “lit up” and the first 100 or so households were connected on a trial basis. This marks an important milestone in the broadband expansion of both regions.
htp introduces new technology: Börry successfully launched as a pioneering project
The fiber optic expansion in Börry has been completed. htp has laid 26 kilometers of cable for high-speed Internet, and around 130 households are now surfing with high and stable bandwidths. Börry is also a pioneer in terms of future-proof Internet provision. This is the first time that htp has used the new XGS-PON technology1 , which is becoming increasingly established as a standard worldwide, but is still not very widespread in Germany.
Comprehensive fiber optic expansion: “Lang-Göns II” project brings high-speed Internet to 2,000 households
This is a significant step towards the digital future of the municipality of Langgöns: the “Lang-Göns II” project was officially presented yesterday. Almost 2,000 households in the Lang-Göns district – north of Holzheimer Straße and in the old town center – will receive a fiber optic connection in the coming year. To make this possible, a total of 27 kilometers of routes will be laid. Once this final gap has been closed, the entire municipality of Lang-Göns will be equipped with state-of-the-art fiber optic technology.
Groundbreaking ceremony in Mengen
The fiber optic expansion in Mengen can begin. With a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, Stiegeler, together with representatives of the municipality and the construction company carrying out the work, opens the broadband expansion. Around 520 buildings in the Schallstadt district will thus be given the chance of future-proof Internet.
Fiber optic network planned for Horb am Neckar
It is the first major joint project of the two regional internet providers Stiegeler and brain4kom, which will merge in 2024. A fiber optic network is to be expanded in seven districts of Horb am Neckar (Freudenstadt district). The pre-marketing phase for this has now begun and will run until December 31, 2023, with construction scheduled to start in 2024/2025.
Fiber optics for around 60,000 households: OXG and Vodafone start fiber optic expansion in Dresden
– The expansion is self-economic and without public funding
– The excavators are now rolling in Niedersedlitz; other areas will follow shortly

Fast fiber-optic Internet for six municipalities in Baden-Württemberg
The fiber optic companies Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG) and GVG Glasfaser are taking the next step in terms of fiber optic expansion in the Ludwigsburg and Rems-Murr districts. Unsere Grüne Glasfaser has concluded a framework agreement with six municipalities in Baden-Württemberg and is expected to build the future-proof fiber optic network from spring 2025. GVG Glasfaser, on the other hand, will supply customers of its teranet brand on the new network.
GVG Glasfaser has built the first house connections in Lemförde
In the black spots – the areas of Lemförde with slightly better broadband coverage to date – the first fiber optic house connections of the GVG brand nordischnet (FTTH – fiber to the home) were installed today in the presence of joint municipality mayor Lars Mentrup. The first building to receive its connection to the digital future was the Lemförde volunteer fire station.
Start of fiber optic expansion in Bliesen by Stadtwerke St. Wendel
Stadtwerke St. Wendel (SSW) will begin building a modern fiber optic network in the Bliesen district of St. Wendel this year. The first fiber optic connections will initially be installed in selected test households in a pilot phase to ensure optimal processes for a large-scale connection.
envia TEL launches gigabit network in Pegau and Elstertrebnitz
The regional telecommunications service provider envia TEL has completed the comprehensive fiber optic expansion in Pegau and Elstertrebnitz in the district of Leipzig. On November 28, 2024, the fiber optic network was officially put into operation together with representatives of the town and municipality, the broadband coordinator and envia TEL. Around 5,300 private households and businesses can now benefit from bandwidths of up to 1,000 megabits per second
LEONET signs agreement for fiber optic expansion in Gochsheim & Weyer
The Bavarian telecommunications company LEONET wants to provide Gochsheim in the district of Schweinfurt with its own gigabit-capable fiber optic network. First Mayor Manuel Kneuer, together with Managing Director Udo Böhnlein and Adrian Richter, Head of LEONET Municipal Services, signed a cooperation agreement in the town hall on November 21, 2024. In future, a good 3,200 households and businesses could receive future-proof Internet connections with a download speed of 1,000 Mbit/s via a 46-kilometre-long fiber optic line.
Fiber optic expansion in the municipality of Groß Twülpstedt continues
Four more villages in the municipality of Groß Twülpstedt and the
joint municipality of Velpke have the chance to get fiber optic Internet: The residents of Groß and
Klein Twülpstedt, Papenrode and Rickensdorf can opt for a WOBCOM fiber optic contract
. Here too, at least 80% of the residents of the respective villages
must sign a fiber optic contract by 16.03.2025.

Fiber optic offensive: ENTEGA concludes agreement with the state of Hesse – partnership with the housing industry is successfully implemented
The green energy and telecommunications provider ENTEGA is making progress as planned with the expansion of its modern fiber optic network. A further milestone has now been reached: The Hessian Minister for Digital Strategy and Development, Prof. Dr. Kristina Sinemus, and Dr. Marie-Luise Wolff, Chairwoman of the ENTEGA Management Board, signed an individual agreement on the fiber optic offensive on Thursday (5 December 2024) in Darmstadt together with the Managing Director of ENTEGA subsidiary ENTEGA Medianet, Christoph Busch, and in the presence of Sybille Wegerich, CEO of bauverein AG. Together with the bauverein subsidiary BVD New Living, ENTEGA is currently developing the new Darmstadt district of Ludwigshöhviertel, which will also be connected with modern fiber optic technology.
Fiber optic expansion in Neuenrade: High-performance Internet with fiber to the building for residents and businesses
Status report – the construction work for the fiber optic expansion in Neuenrade Küntrop is continuing at full speed. Residents and businesses in Neuenrade Küntrop and the town center can look forward to a free fibre optic connection. The connections offer fast, stable and sustainable internet with speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second.
Public utilities for fast Internet: New fiber optic networks in the region
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the first nodes for the expansion of the fiber optic network in Brinckmansdorf and Kühlungsborn were installed. It was only in May that Stadtwerke Rostock AG signed a contract with VitrumFiber, which is building a modern broadband network in Brinckmansdorf, Kessin and Kühlungsborn. Stadtwerke will operate these networks and provide customers with Internet, telephone and television.
Comprehensive expansion and provider diversity: Glasfaser Nordwest and Deutsche GigaNetz cooperate in Bremen
- Glasfaser Nordwest and Deutsche GigaNetz announce Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an open access partnership
- Deutsche GigaNetz will share the FTTH network of Glasfaser Nordwest in Bremen
- Deutsche GigaNetz gains direct access to around 50,000 households and business locations as well as to the future fiber optic network of Glasfaser Nordwest in the north of Bremen
- Open network of Glasfaser Nordwest ensures even more provider diversity for citizens and numerous companies in the city of Bremen
Fiber optic expansion in Reinhausen completed
Since March, Reinhausen has been working hard to provide a total of 76 buildings with 350 residential units with high-speed fiber optic Internet. The work was finally completed this week.
New funding for the Ortenau region
The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs has approved over 18 million euros in funding for 23 municipalities in the Ortenau district. With the help of these funds, over 4,000 buildings will be connected to fiber optics in the coming years. The funding will be supplemented by state funding so that a total of 90% of the investment costs are covered.
