According to the latest market analysis by the German Broadband Association (BREKO), Hesse has made significant progress in expanding its digital infrastructure. BREKO provides the figures and explains the background.

More high-speed in Hesse: With a fiber optic expansion rate of 56%, the federal state is in a strong third place among the federal states as of mid-2024. This puts Hesse only behind Schleswig-Holstein (89%) and Brandenburg (59%). The fiber optic roll-out rate describes the proportion of households, companies and public institutions in whose vicinity a fiber optic line is at least in the street. With an increase of 10 percentage points compared to the same period last year, Hesse has achieved one of the strongest increases.

In terms of the proportion of households actually connected – the fiber optic connection rate – Hesse has also grown more than most other federal states, with an increase of 6 percentage points. A total of 30 percent means 4th place among the federal states.

These are the results of the BREKO Market Analysis 2024, which is based on data from all relevant companies involved in fiber optic expansion in Germany. It is therefore representative of the German telecommunications market.

Thanks to the Ministry for Digital Affairs and Innovation, which was founded in 2019, all necessary measures are bundled in one place and given priority. Together with Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse has also driven forward the OZG broadband portal for fast approval procedures – this is now also being used in other states and is a real acceleration factor for the whole of Germany.”
