Saxony-Anhalt’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, today signed the “Saxony-Anhalt Fiber Optic Pact” with 21 telecommunications companies and two other partners (ARGE-Breitband Landkreis Börde and Zweckverband Breitband Altmark) in a virtual conference. In it, the contractual partners agree to further intensify their efforts to expand ultra-fast broadband networks in the coming years. The fiber optic pact is therefore an important building block for the implementation of the “Digital Agenda” and the state’s gigabit strategy.

The fiber optic pact was co-initiated by BREKO (Bundesverband Breitbandkommunikation e. V.), to which around half of the signatories belong as members. BREKO Managing Director Dr. Stephan Albers said at today’s virtual conference: “The Saxony-Anhalt Fiber Optic Pact sends a clear signal for cooperation and collaboration. The signatory companies and the state of Saxony-Anhalt show how we can become even faster in the expansion of fiber optics. This can only succeed if politicians, the administration and the companies involved in the expansion pull together. The pact addresses three important points that will advance the expansion of the only future-proof and sustainable digital infrastructure: Cooperation, faster and standardized approval procedures and the recognition of alternative installation methods. The BREKO companies are ready to continue investing in their own fiber optic expansion and to participate in additional funding procedures.”
