BREKO press statement on the forthcoming appointment of Klaus Müller as the new President of the Federal Network Agency

Bonn/Berlin, 20.01.2021

Klaus Müller, CEO of the Federation of German Consumer Organizations (vzbv), is set to become the new President of the Federal Network Agency on 1 March 2022, succeeding Jochen Homann, according to consistent reports. He has major tasks ahead of him in shaping the expansion of fibre optics and the energy transition. BREKO Managing Director Dr. Stephan Albers comments on the planned change of leadership at the Federal Network Agency:

“The next head of the Federal Network Agency will face major tasks in shaping the expansion of fiber optics and the energy transition. We are counting on President-designate Klaus Müller to champion competition as the driving force behind the expansion of fiber optics. For the decisive phase of fiber optic expansion, we need above all investment- and competition-friendly regulation, as laid out in the new Telecommunications Act. In addition, he must ensure that the further acceleration of the pace of expansion is brought into line with the interests of consumers in order to connect citizens to the fiber optic network as quickly as possible.”
