BREKO press release on the expansion of the fiber optic fixed network cooperation between Telekom and 1&1
Yesterday, Telekom and 1&1 signed the first product agreement as part of their fiber optic fixed network cooperation. This is another agreement aimed at enabling telecommunications companies to use Telekom’s fiber-optic network for their services on the basis of open access. The German Broadband Association (BREKO) has issued the following press statement on this:
“In its press release on ‘sharing the network’ with 1&1 on February 23, Telekom demands ‘that other companies commit to this principle of open access just like Telekom’. The BREKO member companies are responsible for a large part of the fiber optic expansion in Germany and have long stood for open network access. They want Deutsche Telekom to understand the open access principle in both directions and to put it into practice. In order to achieve nationwide fiber optic expansion in the interests of the citizens and not to jeopardize further investments in the networks of the future, Telekom must also use the open access offers of alternative network operators instead of building over their networks. There is still considerable potential here, which Telekom is not currently exploiting. If cooperation is not a one-way street for Telekom, everyone can win in the fiber optic expansion.”
