Gigaset and BREKO launch WLAN router

Bonn, 07.04.2022 The purchasing association of the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO) is launching its first joint router model with the German telephone manufacturer Gigaset. The Gigaset ONE X8100 was developed in cooperation with BREKO network operators and will be available to the entire market from May 2022.

The more than 400 BREKO companies, including over 225 national and regional network operators and municipal utilities, supply both metropolitan areas and rural areas with high-performance fiber optic connections and, with a share of 60% in the expansion of fiber optics within Germany, make a significant contribution to achieving the German government’s broadband targets. In order to ensure the supply of fiber optic connections even in times of chip shortages and router bottlenecks, the association is now offering an alternative to the existing router range as part of a long-term partnership with Gigaset, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of cordless phones and market leader in Europe. The new Gigaset model ONE X8100 will be available exclusively via the BREKO purchasing association for the entire market from May 2022.

Router task force has been working since 2021

In mid-2021, a joint task force was formed consisting of BREKO and Gigaset as well as representatives of the affiliated carriers. A key objective of the joint project was to discuss and drive forward measures to secure the expansion of fiber optics. For Gigaset, a telephone manufacturer that has been successful for many years, the partnership with BREKO means entering a completely new market. Router development has a very high priority at Gigaset and was closely supported by the long-standing CEO and Chairman of the Board Klaus Weßing.

“Since its foundation in 1999, BREKO has successfully advocated the expansion of infrastructure in the German telecommunications market. The expansion of fiber optics in Germany is an elementary component in ensuring digitization and thus also international competitiveness,” says Jürgen Magull, Managing Director of BREKO Einkaufsgemeinschaft eG. “With Gigaset as a partner, we can provide the network operators organized in the association with a white label router for their expansion projects. This ensures that end customers are connected as quickly as possible and can also use their fiber optic connection.”

“We are very pleased that, thanks to this partnership, we are supporting the expansion of fiber optics in Germany and can now offer a router alternative for the numerous network operators and municipal utilities together with BREKO,” says Klaus Weßing. “For customers, this means having a new alternative to choose from. With the strong BREKO network, customers can continue to rely on local partners and also get Gigaset, a major player in the field of telecommunications with a clear “Made in Germany” quality promise and future-oriented cloud services,” concludes Klaus Weßing.

Router for multimedia and telephony

The slim Gigaset ONE X8100 comes in all white, with a central, round button and discreet, dimmable LED status indicators. Its design language makes one thing clear: it wants to become an integral part of the networked home and not hide behind furniture. With its numerous connections, connection options and wireless standards, it is extremely sociable and, in addition to being ideally suited for fiber optic connections, also acts as a base station for DECT telephones. Just one device, just one mains plug. All the technology is contained in the compact housing of the Gigaset ONE X8100 – including the powerful antennas that bring the Internet to every last corner of large homes.

The established and common WiFi 5 standard guarantees the best reception with up to 2,533 Mbit/s on multiple devices simultaneously. Beamforming directs the antennas of the ONE X8100 specifically to the devices connected to the WiFi network instead of transmitting uncoordinated in all directions. The WPA, WPA2, WPA Mixed and WPA-PSK standards ensure security.

Further router models are to be developed together with the BREKO network operators, and a pure fiber-optic router is also part of the plans for the long-term partnership between BREKO and Gigaset.
