BREKO Einkaufsgemeinschaft, LATUS consulting and vitroconnect present new BREKO Open Access Readiness Check
Bonn 19.02.25 BREKO Einkaufsgemeinschaft, LATUS consulting and vitroconnect present new BREKO Open Access Readiness Check
BREKO Einkaufsgemeinschaft eG (BREKO eG), LATUS consulting AG and vitroconnect GmbH present a joint initiative to pave the way for small and medium-sized network operators and municipal utilities into the wholesale business – more easily than ever before. The focus is on establishing all the necessary technical, organizational and procedural requirements for the efficient provision of wholesale bitstream services via vitroconnect’s Carrier Aggregation Platform (CAP) as quickly and optimally as possible.
The path to establishing wholesale readiness begins with the BREKO Open Access Readiness Check developed by LATUS consulting – an offer from the BREKO purchasing association. With the help of a standardized procedure, the position of the interested BREKO member company is determined with regard to the goal of Open Access. This simplifies the previously complex entry into the Open Access model in the long term.
Background and challenges of the fiber optic industry
The German FTTH market is characterized by the large number of market participants. As a result, the topic of open access is becoming increasingly important during expansion. Regional providers in particular want to open up their networks to resellers in order to tap into additional sources of revenue and contribute to digital participation in their coverage areas. However, network operators without proven wholesale experience are reaching their limits.
The BREKO Open Access Readiness Check – an offer from the BREKO purchasing association
This is precisely where the newly developed BREKO Open Access Readiness Check comes in, which LATUS consulting offers together with BREKO eG especially for all BREKO members in a two-stage process. After a brief self-disclosure, an initial workshop is held in the first phase to determine the position, from which an individual score is derived. In the next step, LATUS carries out a delta analysis in order to take a detailed inventory together with the respective network operator or municipal utility. The existing processes, data and IT systems are checked for their suitability for wholesale. The integrated process model ensures that the companies quickly know the current status of their wholesale capability. The delta analysis results report contains a summary of the results and a detailed action plan.
In a second phase, LATUS consulting supports the member companies in implementing the measures on request so that they are optimally prepared to offer their BSA wholesale services via the vitroconnect platform (CAP). The vitroconnect carrier aggregation platform allows bitstream connections to be marketed automatically to various resellers without the network operator having to manage complex individual connections themselves.
vitroconnect acts as a process service provider with many years of experience and can optionally also act as an intermediary to further simplify sales. The connection to CAP increases network utilization and gives BREKO members access to numerous resellers.
First presentation at the BREKO Product Innovation Talk on March 20, 2025
The initiative will be presented to a broad audience of member companies for the first time on March 20, 2025 at the BREKO Product Innovation TALK. Interested network operators and municipal utilities will be given a detailed insight into the structure and process of the BREKO Open Access Readiness Check and the technical implementation via the CAP of vitroconnect.
Interested member companies can register here free of charge for the BREKO Product Innovation TALK SPEZIAL on March 20, 2025.
Voices from the joint initiative
“The BREKO Open Access Readiness Check provides all municipal utilities and network operators with a well-founded analysis of their current wholesale capability, combined with specific recommendations for action. We take them by the hand and accompany them step by step into the wholesale market,” explains Sebastian Krems, CEO of LATUS consulting.
Dirk Pasternack, CEO at vitroconnect, adds: “The network operators and municipal utilities in BREKO in particular, who still have little experience in the area of open access, can benefit from our systematic approach with LATUS consulting. The readiness check for connecting to our platform is like a navigation system that shows BREKO members exactly where they need to start – be it with data, processes or IT systems.”
The BREKO purchasing association also sees the new initiative as an important impetus for the future of the entire fiber optic industry: “We want to enable all BREKO members to make the best possible use of their fiber optic networks. Thanks to the cooperation with LATUS consulting and vitroconnect, even small and medium-sized network operators and municipal utilities will receive tailored support to enter the wholesale market quickly and securely. In this way, we are sustainably strengthening the competitiveness of our approximately 120 cooperative members in the BREKO purchasing association and preparing them for the time after the fiber optic expansion,” says Jürgen Magull, Managing Director of BREKO eG.
