In an increasingly digitalized world, the expansion of fibre optic networks is of crucial importance for economic and social development. These networks form the backbone of modern communication systems and enable progress in areas such as networked industry, digital commerce and education. To successfully build and operate this infrastructure, a skilled and competent workforce is essential. However, companies are finding it increasingly difficult to meet these needs and find suitable specialists.
The published guide “Qualification of workers for fiber optic expansion”, which was created by the Initiative Fachkräfte für den Glasfaserausbau (FKGA), describes the various qualification profiles that are in demand in fiber optic expansion. The guide is aimed at people considering a career in fibre optic expansion as well as organizations looking for or placing workers.
“Our member companies are dependent on qualified employees today and in the future for the nationwide expansion of fiber optics in Germany. That is why it is important to show as many employees as possible their future prospects and qualification paths in the fibre optic market,” explains Dr. Stephan Albers, Managing Director of the German Broadband Association (BREKO) as a member of the Initiative Fachkräfte für den Glasfaserausbau.
The specific qualification profiles enable the targeted recruitment and placement of employees. The focus is on the qualification of these specialists, building on their various basic qualifications. Depending on the entry requirements, a wide variety of companies can offer many people a career opportunity in fiber optic expansion.
The guide presents qualification profiles for future specialists in fiber optic infrastructure in the areas of civil engineering, network installation, planning, operation and maintenance as well as construction supervision. Each profile outlines specific entry requirements, learning objectives and the duration of further training.
Overall, the guide provides a comprehensive roadmap for individuals and organizations to navigate skills and career paths in fiber deployment and highlight the sector’s potential for growth and innovation.
