New Digital Minister Wildberger: Fresh impetus with an opportunity for digitalization and fibre optic expansion
Berlin, 28.04.25 – The CDU/CSU today presented its ministers for the federal cabinet. Commenting on the appointment of Karsten Wildberger as Minister for Digitization and State Modernization, Sven Knapp, Head of the Capital Office of the German Broadband Association (BREKO), says:
“With Karsten Wildberger, the Federal Cabinet is gaining a specialist with a high level of digital affinity and expertise in the telecommunications sector. The fact that a manager from the business world is taking on this key position speaks for the courage and willingness to change of the future federal government. With the new Digital Ministry and Karsten Wildberger as Minister, there is an opportunity to finally make Germany internationally competitive in terms of digitalization and the expansion of its digital infrastructure. To achieve this, he must quickly make his ministry capable of acting by clarifying responsibilities and taking over the departments dealing with overarching digital issues from other ministries. This is the only way to quickly tackle the most important Black-Red plans for a future-proof digital infrastructure: the planned concept for the infrastructure upgrade from copper to fiber optic networks, the agreement on an effective network expansion acceleration law and the consistent reduction of bureaucracy.”
