BREKO press statement on the publication of the Gigabit Basic Manual
Today, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport presented the so-called Gigabit Grundbuch. The tool announced in the federal government’s gigabit strategy is intended to create a central national data portal for the expansion of the digital infrastructure.
The German Broadband Association (BREKO) has issued the following statement:
“The gigabit land register can make a contribution to facilitating and therefore speeding up the expansion of the digital infrastructure. In particular, telecommunications companies must be given prompt access to real estate, cadastral and land register data.
We are positive about the aim of the Gigabit Grundbuch, which is to make the current uncoordinated data queries by the federal states to the telecommunications companies, which lead to a considerable bureaucratic burden, a thing of the past.
Despite all the joy about the new gigabit land register and the intended increase in transparency, the security of the data it contains must be fully guaranteed and access rights must be regulated restrictively. The protection of telecommunications networks as a critical infrastructure is of paramount importance for social interaction, the economy, the healthcare system and public safety. This must also be reflected in the new Gigabit Grundbuch.”
