BREKO Association
The German Broadband Association (BREKO) represents the majority of German fixed network competitors.
As the leading fiber optic association with more than 510 member companies, the German Broadband Association successfully promotes competition in the German telecommunications market. Its members are clearly committed to future-proof fiber optics and are currently responsible for 70 percent of the competitive expansion of fiber optic connections to buildings and homes. The more than 260 telecommunications network operators organized in the association supply both conurbations and rural areas with future-proof fibre optic connections.
In the current market analysis of 2024, BREKO shows that the expansion of fiber optics in Germany continues to progress. At the end of 2024, the fiber optic roll-out rate was 48.8% and the proportion of connected households was 24.5%. However, as fiber optic expansion is slowing down across the country, BREKO is calling on the federal government to finally take effective measures. At 13.2 billion euros, total investment in fiber optic and mobile expansion remains at a high level, but is declining slightly for the first time in years.
