Berlin/Bonn, 11.10.2021 In an answer published today by the Federal Government (19/32558) to a minor question from the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, the Federal Government provides information on the status of the federal broadband funding program. Since the end of 2015, the federal government has made a total of twelve billion euros available for subsidized broadband expansion. By the end of September 2021, 1.5 billion euros of this had been disbursed. According to the federal government, around 714,000 subsidized connections have been implemented, i.e. around 25 percent of the total planned 2.7 million connections.
Bonn/Wiesbaden, 24.09.2021 After a digital edition in 2020, Fiberdays, Germany's leading trade fair for fibre optic expansion and digitization, will take place again in March 2022 as a presence trade fair at the RheinMain CongressCentrum (RMCC) in Wiesbaden. Tickets for next year's exhibition, which will cover two exhibition halls and include an integrated congress program, are now available. Over 200 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors are expected.
Berlin/Bonn 23 September 2021 The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court yesterday revoked the approval granted by the Federal Cartel Office at the end of December 2019 for the joint venture between Telekom and EWE for fiber optic expansion in northwest Germany, which operates under the name "Glasfaser Nordwest". The court considers the Federal Cartel Office's justification for the approval to be "unsustainable". The Higher Regional Court's decision does not conclude the proceedings. It is certain that the case will go to the next higher instance and thus to the Federal Court of Justice.

Study examines the performance of the Starlink satellite network for Internet coverage in German households Berlin/Bonn, 23.08.2021 Providers such as the US aerospace company SpaceX, the British company Oneweb and the retail giant Amazon want to use satellite internet to provide broadband internet access worldwide in the future. The Internet from space is also increasingly coming to the fore in the political debate. A study commissioned by the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO) and carried out by the Technical University of Central Hesse has now examined the performance of satellite internet based on the Starlink concept. The results provide information on the extent to which it represents an alternative to fiber optic networks to buildings and homes in Germany.
Bonn/Berlin, 27 July 2021 Together with telecommunications expert and economist Prof. Dr. Jens Böcker, the German Broadband Association (BREKO) today presented its latest analysis of the status of fiber optic expansion in Germany. A positive development can be seen in all important key data. The continued rise in demand and ever-increasing growth in data consumption support the need to expand fiber optic networks as a future-proof and sustainable digital infrastructure. The high willingness to invest on the part of established and new market players will also ensure strong growth in fiber optic connections in the coming years. Bonn/Mühlheim am Main, 08 July 2021 The German Broadband Association (BREKO) and the Hessian Association of Towns and Municipalities (HSGB) discussed solutions for accelerating fiber optic expansion in Hesse together with Hessian municipalities at a virtual workshop yesterday. The focus was on the potential and increased use of modern installation methods.
Bonn/Neusäß, June 30, 2021 In his Bavarian-Swabian home, member of the German Bundestag Hansjörg Durz was honored today as a digital politician as part of an initiative by the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO). The award was presented to the CSU politician by the Managing Director of BREKO member company LEW TelNet for his political work in the field of digitalization and digital infrastructure.

The award was presented to the SPD politician by Dr. Frank Kästner, CEO of Stadtwerke Wolfsburg AG, for his political work in the field of digitalization and digital infrastructure.
