Values that guide us: BREKO stands for a free and open society

Bonn/Berlin/Brussels, 18.06.2024 The German Broadband Association (BREKO) is committed to a free and open-minded society. With a statement adopted by the BREKO Board of Directors, Germany’s largest fiber optic association is sending a signal: against hatred and agitation and for the strengthening of the free democratic basic order.

BREKO represents more than 490 companies in which specialists from different backgrounds and cultures work together. They drive the expansion of the digital infrastructure in Germany and connect people all over the world. Diversity and openness are the strength and lived reality of the telecommunications industry.

In view of the results of the European elections, groundbreaking state elections in September and, in particular, the latest social and political developments in Germany, BREKO condemns attacks on the free democratic basic order – including all forms of racism, hatred, agitation and violence. BREKO sees it as its duty to stand up for and promote the free democratic basic order.

The BREKO Board of Directors therefore agrees not to proactively contact parties and organizations that do not support liberal democratic values as part of the association’s work.
