Digital politician: District Administrator from the Neckar-Odenwald district receives award for fiber optic expansion
The German Broadband Association (BREKO) has awarded Dr. Achim Brötel from Mosbach the title of “Digital Politician” for his services to the expansion of fibre optics.
Since the beginning of his 19-year term of office, Achim Brötel has been committed to expanding the fiber optic infrastructure in his district. With an area of more than 1,100 square kilometers, the Neckar-Odenwald district is one of the largest districts in Baden-Württemberg and is particularly sparsely populated with only 145,000 inhabitants.
Thanks to the cooperation initiated by District Administrator Brötel with the network operator BBV, around 43,000 households are now connected to the fiber optic network on a self-sufficient basis. BREKO recognizes this achievement with the “Digital Politician” award.
Roman Skrodzki, BREKO Local Policy Officer: “Achim Brötel recognized the importance of fibre optic infrastructure early on and has worked hard to ensure that the Neckar-Odenwald district benefits from the opportunities offered by the new technology. In a project that is unique in Germany, he agreed with BBV Deutschland to expand the entire district and thus created a flagship project for fiber optic expansion in rural areas.”
District Administrator Dr. Achim Brötel: “I am delighted to receive this award. It also goes to the many people active in local politics here in the district who actively supported the expansion. The Neckar-Odenwald district would never have been able to make an investment of this magnitude, no matter how generous the financial support from the federal and state governments.”
BBV Managing Director Martin Naber: “When it comes to fiber optic expansion, providers and regional politicians must work hand in hand; the region needs a tailwind. Dr. Brötel has recognized the need of the hour. Fiber optics will take the infrastructure in the Neckar-Odenwald district to a new level and will last for generations to come.”
