On November 22, the national consultation procedure on the draft decision submitted by the Federal Network Agency on the conditions for access to Telekom's fixed network wholesale services was concluded. The decision is of particular relevance for the expansion of fiber optics in Germany, as it defines the framework conditions for future fiber optic regulation. In the interests of a new and future-oriented regulatory regime, the German Broadband Association (BREKO) is calling for improvements.
Today, the SPD, Greens and FDP presented their coalition agreement for the 20th legislative period under the title "Daring more progress - an alliance for freedom, justice and sustainability". In it, the "traffic light coalition" also sets the framework conditions for the nationwide expansion of fiber optics and mobile communications in Germany.
Bonn, 23.11.2021 With the network operator Colt Technology Services, the German Broadband Association (BREKO) welcomes its 400th member company at the end of 2021. Together with the BREKO purchasing association, which is welcoming its 100th network operator as a member this month, the BREKO association is celebrating a proud 500 memberships. This means that the leading fiber optic association represents 85 percent of the alternative telecommunications network operators active in Germany as well as manufacturers of hardware, components and service providers.

Berlin, 20.10.2021 The German Broadband Association (BREKO) comments on the coalition negotiations between the SPD, Greens and FDP starting tomorrow: "We welcome the fact that digitization is to play a central role in a possible "traffic light" coalition. If the three parties continue to pursue the good approaches from the exploratory paper in the coalition negotiations, digitization will finally receive the priority it deserves as a driver of innovation and climate protection, and digital policy will be given a top position at the cabinet table.
Bonn/Berlin, October 14, 2021 BREKO believes that the Federal Network Agency's draft decision on the future regulation of telecommunications companies' access to Telekom's local loop, which was presented on Monday this week, is a step in the right direction. BREKO welcomes the Federal Network Agency's proposal for the future regulation of fiber-optic networks.
Berlin/Bonn, 11.10.2021 In an answer published today by the Federal Government (19/32558) to a minor question from the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, the Federal Government provides information on the status of the federal broadband funding program. Since the end of 2015, the federal government has made a total of twelve billion euros available for subsidized broadband expansion. By the end of September 2021, 1.5 billion euros of this had been disbursed. According to the federal government, around 714,000 subsidized connections have been implemented, i.e. around 25 percent of the total planned 2.7 million connections.
Bonn/Wiesbaden, 24.09.2021 After a digital edition in 2020, Fiberdays, Germany's leading trade fair for fibre optic expansion and digitization, will take place again in March 2022 as a presence trade fair at the RheinMain CongressCentrum (RMCC) in Wiesbaden. Tickets for next year's exhibition, which will cover two exhibition halls and include an integrated congress program, are now available. Over 200 exhibitors and 3,500 visitors are expected.
Berlin/Bonn 23 September 2021 The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court yesterday revoked the approval granted by the Federal Cartel Office at the end of December 2019 for the joint venture between Telekom and EWE for fiber optic expansion in northwest Germany, which operates under the name "Glasfaser Nordwest". The court considers the Federal Cartel Office's justification for the approval to be "unsustainable". The Higher Regional Court's decision does not conclude the proceedings. It is certain that the case will go to the next higher instance and thus to the Federal Court of Justice.
