    Angie Hagemann, Managing Director Construction of the Deutsche Glasfaser Group, has been unanimously appointed to the Board of the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO). Angie Hagemann has been responsible for the nationwide expansion of networks at Deutsche Glasfaser since May 1, 2021. On the 14-member BREKO Board of Directors, she succeeds Dr. Stephan Zimmermann, who is leaving Deutsche Glasfaser at his own request.

    The European Local Fibre Alliance (ELFA) welcomes the European Commission's Digital Compass and its goal to bring gigabit connectivity to all sustainable digital infrastructures by 2030. The compass points to full fibre networks - which not only is the most future-proof technology at gigabit level, but also the most energy-efficient. It is pivotal that policy-makers have a strong commitment to promoting investments in full fiber networks in both urban and rural areas across Europe in the years to come.

    Berlin/Bonn May 19, 2021 The German Broadband Association (BREKO) is launching its "Fiber for Future" initiative with this clear message in the super election year 2021. The aim of the initiative, which starts today, is to highlight the importance of digital policy and digital infrastructure. As part of this, the association is recognizing politicians for their digital policy work.

    Berlin/Bonn 7 May 2021 At its meeting today, the Federal Council paved the way for a new Telecommunications Act by approving the Telecommunications Modernization Act (TKMoG). The law will come into force on December 1, 2021.

    Bonn/Essen May 5, 2021 The fiber optic forum in NRW entered its third round today on the virtual platform of E-world energy & water. Together with partners con|energy and MICUS Strategieberatung, the German Broadband Association (BREKO) invited speakers from industry and associations to discuss the opportunities and challenges of regional fiber optic expansion. North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Affairs, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, opened the event. As part of the "Fiber for Future" initiative, BREKO honored him as a digital politician.

    Berlin/Bonn, 26.04.2021 Federal Minister of Transport Andreas Scheuer today announced the launch of the new gigabit funding program. The new funding program is intended to enable subsidized fiber optic expansion in areas where Internet coverage of less than 100 Mbit/s ("grey spots") is available. Previously, broadband funding measures were only possible in areas with a maximum of 30 Mbit/s ("white spots").

    Bonn/Berlin 20.04.2021 BREKO Managing Director Dr. Stephan Albers explains the amendment to the Telecommunications Act: "The new Telecommunications Act sets important priorities for the decisive stage of fiber optic expansion in Germany, but unfortunately does not use all the possibilities for a real expansion acceleration law. Nevertheless, we are pleased that the legislative process, which is so important for the further expansion of fiber optics, is now on the home straight after a long run-up. A failure of the legislative process would not have been an option.

    Bonn/Berlin, 15.04.2021 Together with the associations BITMi, BVMW and eco, the German Broadband Communications Association (BREKO) is supporting the "Deutschland kann digital" initiative. The aim of the campaign is to strengthen the German digital economy and make the digital achievements of the coronavirus crisis visible. At a virtual discussion round yesterday, representatives from the industry and politics talked about how Germany can catch up in terms of broadband coverage.
